Issue Position: Protect Our Environment

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2012

The state Republicans like Tom Corbett and Rich Alloway have decided that the environment should be protected unless it interferes with corporate profits. The governor appointed a man as secretary of the state Department of Community and Economic Development who is a "coal baron" in Pennsylvania's soft coal mining areas where strip mining has devastated the local environment. C. Alan Walker has the power to veto environmental regulations if he thinks those regulations would interfere with corporate profits. I believe that most industries can be run without polluting our air, water and land. The problem is that the prime directive of corporations has become profits for the investors over all other considerations. This situation requires the government to regulate these corporations in order to protect the citizens.
